Let’s remember with these three pictures what APPA organized and how they spent this day a year ago:
Yesterday (October 14th) was World Photobook Day, and to celebrate a group of book nerds (including myself) were invited by @photobookarchive to choose and share our favourite photobook. Here's a picture of me trying not to freak out about public speaking with Audrey the amazing @strange_neighbour hound. 📷 by @sarahpannell
Drew Pettifer's selection for our World Photobook Day event @strange_neighbour and @photobookarchive was Ryan McGinley's self-titled book from 2002. Drew spoke about this early seminal McGinley book as a key influence for his own practice. And the accessibility of the Zine format as a way to experience McGinley's exploration of the public and the private – and his beautiful use of nature as a site for freedom and release.
Katrin Koenning's selection for our World Photobook Day event yesterday was – 'Will They Sing Like Raindrops or Leave Me Thirsty' (2014). Self published by Max Pinckers. Katrin spoke eloquently about how this book uses a unique visual language and reframes approaches to documentary photography. She spoke of its use of complex and rich narratives whilst still being grounded in social, political & religious commentary.
